[Avid-L2] AVCHD transfer conundrum

 

Hi all, sorry about the multiple posts if you get them.

I've run into an issue with a client that I can't resolve so I'm putting it out there for the brains trust.

Client is using an HDR CS130 - a Sony AVCHC camcorder.

Footage shot on two different cards, at different times plays perfectly via HDMI to a monitor, no glitches.

Any attempt to import causes sever digital hits (dropouts?) and blocky pans. So far I've tried transferring and transcoding via:
FCP 7.0.3 via Log and Transfer - digital hits (uses QT)
FCP X (on a completely different system) (uses AVFoundation)
MPEG Streamclip didn't recognize the files
Clipwrap rewrapped and there were digital hits, again.

But, playing HDMI to the monitor, it's perfect.

I'm open to any suggestions from "the camera must be faulty" to "you have no idea what you're doing Hodgetts".
