So I did a simple test with a QT .mov file from the Canon5D SD 640x480 footage that I can ama into Avid MC6 on my MBP OS 10.6.8. I used an AvidFX effect and dropped it on a clip. I then imported the canon file into the effect and it came in fine just narrow. Scaling the H to 1.125 fills the frame horizontally and looks correct so I guess the way I brought the .mov in AvidFX doesn't do any square vs. non square correction. I'll chalk that up to my lack of experience with AvidFX. Does the fact that I can import a QT .mov of the H.264 Canon file mean that AvidFX on a mac is able to access .mov files through the 64bit QT app? I am booting in the 32 bit kernel but as I've confirmed before on this list the MC 6 along with any other 64bit apps will run in 64bit mode. AvidFX 6.0.3 must be 64 bit to run in mc 6 so does that mean it can only use 64bit QT as the conduit to access .mov files or could AvidFX 6.0.3 be accessing .mov's through 32 bit QT? If as I suspect it is using 64bit QT why can't the Pan and Zoom effect at least on the mac side be made to be compatible with pre V6 Pan and Zoom effects. I guess the next test should be to create an AvidFX effect on a pre V6 system and see if that translates to the V6 system.
