Yes, Artist Color works fine through an Ethernet switch -- as long as all required devices are on the same subnet. And yes, Artist Color is shipped with the default of DHCP -- however, it can be changed to have a static IP address.
Regarding the EuCon Discovery function, I find it to be hit-or-miss -- depending largely on if the panel was powered-up when the computer was booted. In other words, I have had some issues when my [HP] computer was already up-and-running -- and I then needed to power-up and use the panel. In most instances -- I cannot not get the panel to be recognized without rebooting the computer.
There does not seem to be a clear way to "force" the Discovery application to see the panel in that situation -- at least not on PC. It maybe more straightforward if the panel is set to a static IP address -- or if it is directly connected to the host computer -- but I have not yet tested either of those scenarios.
There is definitely room for improvement here (along with the miserable trackball ballistics). Having to entirely shutdown a project and computer just to tweak a shot is not exactly a great workflow when clients are sitting behind you.
Of course, the other option is to simply leave the panel all day -- whether you need to use it or not.

Is it okay to plug the artist color into an ethernet switch and hook the MBP to the switch and also hook the switch to a network connection for internet and other access? I'm not concerned with an Isis environment for now. I think that's how it works. At the Avid event in Hollywood there was an MBP with the panel straight into the MBP ethernet but it wasn't working at the time I was there. I've read that the panel is usually run in DCHP and not a fixed address. Will the EuCon software automatically seek out the devices on a given network and display them. That's what I'm reading but I don't have the hardware setup yet. I have to wait for Santa Avid to come before I can start plugging things in to test.
