I know this is geeky, but the History Channel is airing a show in the "Modern Marvels" series right now about the Library of Congress and it's all about digital restoration and preservation of film, video and audio content. Very interesting. They've got this huge "library" of video tape decks including all of the spare parts, extra tape heads and manuals to keep them all running.
