Re: [Avid-L2] HD to SD downscaling

This is one of many areas where I think Avid has really dropped the ball.

Sequence based motion adapters and project format switching are seldom high quality ways to down convert or cross convert HD and SD media. These current software based methods pale in comparison to even Avid's Nitris DX based hardware scaling and frame rate conversion. We find ourselves round tripping to tape and doing other such tricks when we must have high quality results.

Avid's and those who use them in file based workflows could certainly benefit from higher quality software or hardware assisted software cross, down and UP conversion.

This would be an example of a new feature which actually helps me solve problems and improves the quality of my work.

I was hoping we would see something like this in V6. Nope.

I was also hoping there would be more flexible ways of using HD media in SD projects and vice versa. V6 did not deliver anything new via resolution independence or resolution flexibility.

Many other items on my wish list. But going down that trail of tears would be off topic to this thread on HD to SD downscaling.

afaik, there is no SOP.
However, i've found AE not the best, and Avid itself pretty decent.
But YMMV based on content. You can get Avisynth and toy around if you have
problematic scenes, as it is highly tweakable.
