Yep they changed Spaces, but it's not entirely bad: open Mission Control and then drag the window of the application you want to the + sign (top right or top left depending on your setup). It creates a new Space in which you can host your application. Then you can change between Spaces with 4 fingers on the trackpad (pretty neat) or using the CTRL key, combined with the arrows or the numbers. When you restart your computer, it remembers how many spaces you created.
Another neat feature added to the new Spaces is that each Space can have a different wallpaper.
But what I miss is the ability to assign a Space to an application in the System Preferences - as it was possible on Snow Leopard. On my MacBookAir, I have Mail in Space 1, Safari in 2, word processor in 3 and 4 is for the odd application I need. But each time you open an application, it defaults to Space 1, and then you have to manually drag it to Space 4. A bit annoying.
Spaces is great on a machine with little screen estate. But I don't really see the point on an Avid setup with several monitors.
