No. Remapping should not clip. As you said it remaps. If your are clipping, something is not right.
Not familiar with Alexa material ingest on Avid but it sounds like you are remapping (16 to 0 and 235 to 255) your footage twice.
Avid "thinks" your footage is 16-235, but effectively it is already
0-255.
It maybe a bug, but it's also likely to be a import setting.
