I answer:
I don't know if there is a difference, but there COULD be one. All I
know is the directions tell you to uninstall using the uninstaller in
the folder in your Applications folder. I think the uninstaller looks
for files specifically by name. If you use the uninstaller from the
patch installer, it may not remove everything that should be removed.
The uninstaller in the Applications folder should logically be the one
to use for the currently installed version because it most likely was
'customized' to remove everything for the current application's
version. Think of it this way: There's more than one reason to
uninstall a version of software. If you wish to uninstall Avid for
ANY reason, you shouldn't need to find a special uninstaller that's
not found with the application you wish to uninstall. I can't think
of a single application that uses an uninstaller located in a
different place. It's just logical that the uninstaller designed for
an application would be installed WITH that application.
Here's another reason I think I'm right: It's ALWAYS worked
correctly when I use the uninstaller found in the Applications
folder. I've just been following the directions and I've never had a
problem with it. And I've done this (uninstall/install patch/update)
many times now.
