Re: [Avid-L2] OT: T1 rates

We're in the same situation as you.

We were using speakeasy for internet and a bonded T1- but they had periodic problems with the T1 they were leasing from AT&T. I think it was something crazy like 750 a month for phone and a bonded T1 (3Mbps) (FiOs at home is 15+ Mbps for $90!) Speakeasy is now megapath, which also absorbed Covad - it's all one company now, I think. Depending on your location, they may be able to get you ethernet, but that's price-comparable to T1, but a little faster, about $300/month. Depends on how close you are to their office. if you google 'speed test' Speakeasy comes up 3rd or 4th. After you run the speed test, they'll post whatever their offer of the month is.

Before Speakeasy we had CBeyond - similar pricing and service, similar periodic failure. Their business model is kinda weird - they constantly hire new salespeople who promise the world, then disappear. They burn through a lot of salespeople.

We're now using AT&T traditional copper for the phone, and get the internet via microwave from Towerstream- 5x5 for $500/mo. We've had great results and excellent service from them. Occasionally during the regular business day our connection speed drops a little below what we're paying for, but never too bad- most of the time, especially at night, it's closer to 8x8 or higher.

Hope that helps. Time warner offer us a fiber connection at crazy prices.
