Have to say this seemed to be the only option in sensible prices but it
hasn't worked well for us. Often gets confused with monitors only half
switched over. In the end we ran separate keyboard and mouse for each PC and
soon separate cables to monitors and dual input monitor.. Also I think the
switching stops the avid from doing things like digitising..

Spoke too soon. This morning, having the exact problem Jay describes.
However, simply unplugging the switch for a second seems to wake up the
second monitor. Not a horrible trade-off considering how cheap the switch
is.

just hot-switching between applications. Anyway, I don't 'hot switch'
between CPUs - I'm running either one, or the other, and I boot after making
the switch, which might be why I don't see the problem Jay was seeing.

switch from one system to another, about 1/3 the time one of the monitors
would come up all jacked up. Static, skewed, etc. I would have to cycle the
power to the StarTech or reseat a DVI cable on it to fix it. I tried
different cables, even some pricy ones. I tried different port configs and
screen resolutions and stuff. And it continued to suck. Oh well. But it was
real cheap when I first got it. I didn't bother to replace it. Maybe it was
defective. I just put it at a different workstation that has a single
monitor and it works great as a single monitor 4x1. I hope you have better
luck.

you get one that supports EDID memory. Or get the Gefen DVI Detective. Or
when you switch away from a CPU it will forget that it's dual monitor and
shove all your windows onto a single monitor space.

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
