It seems to me that Avid is fairly diversified already. They offer
products from Avid, Pinnacle, Digidesign, M-Audio, iNews, Blue Order
(and more) - all now Avid after the "We're One Avid" re-branding. For
those of us in broadcast, they provide a fairly complete end-to-end
solution.
Sure, we can cobble together a workflow from a number of other vendors
but from a support standpoint, Avid takes ownership of and
responsibility for problems anywhere along the chain, even when 3rd
parties are involved.
Plus their end-to-end solution is much more open than it might have
been in the past. Avid is working hard to provide 3rd party
interoperability. Not always perfect but showing tangible progress.
I wouldn't expect Avid to start making phones, mp3 players and tablet
computers, though. What kind of diversity were you looking for?
