Thanks, Greg.
My "Nehalem" has an AJA Kona3 + BOB attached. It was acquired (and
still is) as an FCP/FCS system as barter for a project I completed
earlier this year. It runs that hardware/software configuration on the
primary disk/partition running OSX 10.6.8. MC v5.5.2 is on a secondary
disk/partiton running OSX v10.6.7.
My hope is Avid/AJA will announce support for the Kona3 on Media
Composer *prior* to the release of v6.x. If not, I may have to swap the
Kona3 for the I/O Express (or other viable solution).
It was suggested in the "Avid: Live to Edit" thread on the L that the
Kona3 may not be supported until v6. That suggestion did *not* come
from an Avid employee, and I know Avid employees under NDA right now.
Since I see valid reasons for adding support now or forcing current
users and recent cross-graders to upgrade to v6.x for it, I'll not
speculate myself.
My video cards and CPUs are slow by today's benchmarks. I'll work
within my means for now and see how the expanded third-party situation
susses itself out before adding or swapping hardware. Besides, the
next release will likely be engineered and optimized for OSX "Lion."
This would mean moving away from the "Nehalem" to a newer MacPro
(Westmere, et al) tower to meet the new Avid requirements, yes?
Cheers!
Jess

enthusiastic about the downconverts out of it (HD 2398 to SD 2997) but
otherwise a terrific value if you don't need analog in.
