As a former motion stand operator, let me just say that both Avid and FCP disappoint when it comes to animating stills. Really, why can't I set individual tapers for each keyframe? How much programming would that take? FCP won't even let me taper all the basic parameters!

I've generally had good results with the quality of moves on stills in FCP. I
think it does a better job with HD than SD. Unfortunately the moves are pretty
basic compared with RED or AE or even Motion. But yes, the memory problem
persists and is a real show-stopper.
