Hello fellow listers,
does anyone have a good recommendation for laptops? My first impression is just go with the 17inch MBP but i was wondering if anyone has any PC-based alternatives to recommend as i'm not sure what budgets will stretch to?
I would basically be importing footage into an Avid (vers 4.0.5), storing that on a RAID as native XDCAM files and transcoding down to firewire drives for backup and delivery to the facility for offline.
An E-Sata connection would be nice and we'd be using Lacie Rugged drives as our firewire devices which do have firewire 800 connections and are bus powered so that pushes me towards a mac.
Anyone care to chime in? Would there be any problems with using a mac to import and create media/metadata (tape names etc) and sending them to a PC only Avid facility? They have MacDrive so that's not an issue, just trying to think of any gotchas. The media and bins are all the same right?
Any help appreciated as always,
Cheers,
Andi
