Here's what I found in an Avid Knowledge Base. Sounds like you're onto something:
# There are new folders and files in my Project folder. What are they and what do they do?
* In each Project folder, you will see a new folder called SearchData which contains a file called _SearchDB_. This file is the database created by Find when it indexes the bins within your project. If you have PhraseFind installed, you will also see a folder called PhoneticData which contains a number of files with a .pat extension; these files contain the phonetic information for each of the audio files within your project.
# Can I delete the SearchData or PhoneticData folders from my Project folder?
* Yes, you can delete the SearchData or PhoneticData (if you have PhraseFind installed) folders from your Project folder. You can only delete them when your editing application is not running. The next time you launch your editing application, Find will then re-index all of the bins within your project..

They have approx 12 bays on a unity. She said after the power loss the find wasn't working. I've not dealt with this new architecture of find on 5.5.1. I don't see why a power loss would impair the find function. I guess if it was phrase find I could see that the cataloged metadata might be lost but I don't think she has that. Anybody know why a power loss would make the new find function stop working? They are on a unity system.
