At any given time we can have twenty or more projects on our shared storage. That is a lot of storage. Add to that multiple systems hitting those at the same time and you need the bandwidth.
Also, RAID 5 doesn't deliver the performance needed for 4:4:4 HD. So, I have to mirror to protect the data from accidental loss. Now it eats up twice as much space. It's amazing how fast 36 TB disappears in this situation.
