Yes.
Use a dedictated CC / Subtitle app.
I've made one:

It has a learning curve, but it will pay off, and once you know all the
'hidden' features, you never ever use Avid other than small typo
corrections.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Wish list
I've been doing a lot of captioning lately with Avid's caption generator.
It's a pretty good system if you are not doing closed caption. But I would
love it if you could hop between the script boxes and the timeline so you
could listen, type, listen, type. The way it seems to work now is listen,
type, close effect, open the next title, listen and type, You could cut the
work in half it the title box stayed open while you listened. Anyone know
of a trick to get around this?
