Re: [Avid-L2] Avid Honored Again... DO NOT READ MY PREVIOUS POST!

He's talking about the SAT solo ingest for Avid...
That is third party, not Avid, and it's obsolete...

My approach was to use FreeMXF to rip the video content to a raw MpegII
stream, use FFmpeg / Sox to extract the sound to poly wave files,
use FFmpeg to encode the raw MpegII to DNxHD, then WriteAvidMXF to wrap to
Avid MXF.
This is all free open source stuff.

To control it, i've written a XML parser to find rotten clips / spanned
clips and get resolution/timecode metadata, and a shell application to run
the whole shebang in batch.
(Meaning, point at the source folder containing the GFpack backups, enter an
Avid Project name, set mediadrive and press 'go'...)

After this, it's just a matter to open the Media Tool and drag/drop the
clips into bins.

Now since the video in this approach has to be written 3 times (afaik both
FreeMXF and WriteAvidMXF do not support pipes),
disk speed is becoming the limiting factor.
I'm getting close to RT on 100 Mbit HD to DNxHD 120, but it runs unattended
and have not had one error on more than 1000 clips.
(vs an error every few clips in Avid...)
