I don't understand why anyone shooting 1920x1080 would want to toss 1/3 of their
horizontal resolution to go to DVCProHD at 1280x1080. Makes more sense to
transcode to DNxHD at full resolution outside of Avid, then fast import doesn't
it?

We have the Panasonic HMC150 that also records AVCHD. I assume
you can download the same MediaConcept transcoder from Panasonic
we use for 150 footage; very fast conversion to DVCProHD on an 8
core machine -- at least 3x real time. Then the DVCProHD files
can be instantly imported (or AMA linked) into MC 4 for editing.
I think that's as fast as you'll get at this point.
