Re: [Avid-L2] AMA and relinking

We have a project that uses AMA with XDCAM EX files. The files are on a Unity
workspace. But it shows up as different drive letters in our two edit suites. So
the first thing we do if we move rooms, is to "Link to Volumes" and choose to
create bins based on subfolders. The bins have already been created in the
project before, so it essentially relinks the files in the bins that already
existed. We are careful to not put anything else in the bins. I don't know what
would happen if we did imports or had other master clips in those bins. But the
sequences light up full of media.

These aren't large projects, though, so YMMV. This works great fur us with all
media in one master folder for external camera files.

I can't really find any documentation that explains exactly how AMA finds
and refinds media, is there a definitive document on this? Some people are
saying UMID but not all media has this, like some QT's, or is it paths, or
both or what? And what's the priority list if there is one?

What is it looking for, drive letter and paths, filenames?

So if you want to relink QT's from a drive that was on another machine how
do you know what the path was? The bin column for drive is empty I guess
because the media isn't where it's expected but how do you know where it is
supposed to be? I can't see anywhere the whole path is stored when the file
is originally linked to be able to mount the drive in the right place

Relinking files for a big project seems a mammoth task if it works
especially with QT's because you can't relink volume you have to relink
files individually?

I am assuming if you kept everything the same, file name, and exact location
including drive letter the media would relink on another machine?
