The only plug-ins that should be in there are the RTAS plug-ins installed by MC5. Be very careful as you add any new RTAS plug-ins. Some RTAS plug-ins aren't, in fact, properly compliant with the spec, so they'll work in Pro Tools, but not MC. Avid doesn't test every plug-in out there, leaving it up to the individual developers to test their product in MC5.
What I discovered was that many filter manufacturers (like BIAS) install a whole range of plug-in catagories, including AU, RTAS and VST, even though you might only be using VST-based software. That's why I had RTAS versions installed, even though I'd never had Pro Tools on the machine.
Outside of the default MC5 RTAS filters, I've added the Focusrite Scarlett suite and they seem to be OK.
