I had a curiosity on betasp tape today. We have a BVW 70 and a DVW A-500. Because of some past issues with dubs made out of house I always check the betasp dubs. One of the things I check for is LTC matching VITC. I do this on our DVW A-500. I roll the tape then hit the jog button to pause the tape I then toggle the TCR from auto to vitc and ltc to make sure they all match. Today I noticed every time I hit the jog button to stop play the deck always parked on a Field 2 according to the time code reader on the deck. I figured that's just the way the ballistics of the machine worked until the last tape I checked always stopped on Field 1. This got me thinking there may be a relationship between ctrl track phase and where the machine parks, much like the issues we use to deal with in the 3/4 inch days when some decks didn't have framing servos. Anybody have a better knowledge of the inner workings of the betasp servo mechanism and if it is
possible what I'm seeing might imply that the ctrl track may be out of phase on one of the dub house's machine. This is not creating any issue for me but I am curious if there is a format difference between the tapes
PS: I'm sure I've become the favorite client at the dub house after rejecting about half of their betasp dubs for various reasons. ;-)
