Re: [Avid-L2] OT: directors reels

So far, the advice of a montage and menu of full scenes (not necessarily the full movie) jives with my experience. I've done directors reels, actors reels, DPs reels... even a dancer's reel but generally only do these for close friends. By far the hardest is your own editor's reel because even the editing of the reel says something about you as an editor. Also, sometimes as an editor you want to let scenes play out, other times its about fast and edgy.

For directors, one interesting thing a director once asked for was a lot of entrances and exits (people entering a room or leaving) which worked pretty well and of course, all the most famous people he'd worked with. Also if they've directed a large scene with lots of extras that shows something noteworthy.

DPs it's all about the beauty shots, lighting, and panoramic landscapes.

Actors its about screen presence, diverse roles, and production value.
