Darn, you're right. Must have been 5.2 (which was released in 1994, and my
school acquired this machine somewhere around 1995). Can this have been
model 200s?

I'm pretty sure that Avid Benelux kept this setup, and revived it for a
customer party some years ago and had it on display.

MC 6 started shipping November 2005, but I only saw my first v6 in 1997.
Most of the world I worked in was on 5.5 by that time.

Those must have been slower days.

They might need to start over with MC1 again soon ;-)
