I've been given am AC3-5.1 file, which I imported into Symphony 5. But
I can't hear it. The fine manual says I should be able to listen to a
stereo version since I don't have any 5.1 hardware. It's the same
sample rate as the project - 48. Indicates 6 channels. No waveforms
when I put it on the time line. The file plays in VLC Media Player.
System audio is good, playing everything else. Just not this 5.1
file. Any ideas?
I say:
Symphony cannot decode ac3 audio. If you're on a Mac, you can use
MPEG Streamclip to decode and separate the ac3 compressed audio into
your 6 output channels (L, R, C, Ls, Rs, and LFE). On Mac, you could
make each output channel an AIFF or WAV, 48kHz sample rate at 24
bits. AIFFs and WAVs can be imported into Symphony.
