Launch Information
The official release of the new Avid Media Composer v5, Avid Symphony v5, and Avid NewsCutter v9 editing systems and all upgrades to v5/v9 began at 12:30 PM ET June 10, 2010. General availability, including online store is June 10, 2010, and downloads will be available that day from the Avid Download Center for support customers (login and password required) and on the download protect site for those eligible for the MC v5 upgrade.
Eligibility (Version Protection):
Customers that bought and registered.....
1.Purchased a new Avid Media Composer v4.x, Avid Symphony v4.x, or Avid NewsCutter v8.x or…..
2.Purchased and registered an upgrade from Avid XDV/XPro or Avid Media Composer to Avid Media Composer v4.x or….
3.Purchased and registered an upgrade to Avid Symphony v4 or Avid NewsCutter v8.....
Between April 12, 2010 and June 10, 2010 are eligible for a download upgrade to the v5 or v9 editing software Customers that are eligible based on the purchase dates and registration criteria above should be directed to: http://www.avid.com/protect Note: Only those that meet the purchase and registration criteria will be allowed to download the new software. Avid will email those that meet the criteria with instructions later this week. The download of v5/v9 must occur by June 30, 2010 at which time the site will be removed.
Academic 4 Year Upgrades
Students that purchased a Media Composer Academic v3.5 through v4.0 after September 30, 2009 and registered their product with Avid are eligible for the 4 year upgrade promotion including the new Media Composer v5 http://www.avid.com/us/support/upgrade-academic-free

ScriptSync
Starting with the release of Avid Media Composer v5, Avid Symphony v5, and Avid NewsCutter v9, we are breaking out the ScriptSync functionality from the main applications and providing it as a purchasable option.
Why you ask?
Avid partners with a third party company and licenses their underlying technology in order to provide the features that ScriptSync offers. Recently our contract with this partner was renewed, and because of this Avid has chosen to offer ScriptSync as an option. By providing ScriptSync as an option, Avid does not pass the cost of the technology to all customers, but allows customers who do take advantage of this technology, ScriptSync, to continue to do so for an exceptional price.
What does this mean to customers?
With the release of Avid Media Composer v5.0, Avid Symphony v5.0, and Avid NewsCutter v9.0, Avid has decided to provide, free of charge, a final version of ScriptSync to any customer who is upgrading from a previous version of Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony, or Avid NewsCutter.Avid Media Composer v5, Avid Symphony v5 and Avid NewsCutter v9 will be the last versions of the editing software where we will provide ScriptSync free of charge. When the next versions of Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony, and Avid NewCcutter are released, customers will have to purchase ScriptSync as an option.
How much will this cost?
Any customer that buys a new copy of Avid Media Composer v5, Avid Symphony v5 or Avid NewsCutter v9 can purchase ScriptSync for $995 (US MSRP). International pricing can be obtain from a regional office.
