[Avid-L2] Remote desktop (win)

So how (un)safe would it be to use some form of remote access that would
allow me to acces my two studio machines from home over the internet?

I have no idea how to set it up (that would be the next question), but I
would like to know how (un)safe such a setup is.

Basically, I would like to check in on my machines, for instance to make
sure if a certain MetaFuze transcode session has been completed or is still
running, or a render/mixdown, stuff like that.

Thanks for any insight in this matter.
