It just has to work without glasses. That's the whole thing. Until it works without special eyewear (or "eyeware"), it just won't be a truly mature technology. And we're probably ten to 15 years away from that. IMHO.

Just a thought on that:

Not sure about what 3D will add to any and all content, but the same could
be said about things like widescreen, color and surround sound. If 3D
becomes the defacto way of registering and displaying moving images, it
won't be just "animated flix, gore fests and sports".

Doesn't surround sound seem like a fair comparison, looking at theatrically
released motion pictures?
