Re: [Avid-L2] Oh joy

That's the Avid marketing department toiling away with their heads in
the sand! Who cares about what the editors REALLY care about. We can
do 3D!

BTW, the whole VERY COOL feature of being able to use any frame rate
in a project bit me in the butt yesterday, because the off-line editor
cut on an upgraded Media Composer using 720 24p and 1080 60i, but they
hadn't upgraded their Symphony. Both share media on a Unity. I showed
up to do the on-line and color correction and couldn't open the
sequences. Also, he had Sapphire effects that I couldn't render in the
Symphony (I only had Sapphire v1 to his v2), but he couldn't render my
Symphony color correction in his Media Composer. What was supposed to
be a two hour job turned into eight hours. Obviously, that was not
Avid's fault, but it sure didn't make it easy to "Play Together."

While I'm complaining, Greg Staten told me years ago how the color
corrector was going to get some revolutionary overhaul. Where is it?
Symphony is now really pretty pathetic. I just wanted to do some nice
vignetting on a recent series of spots. What a nightmare. I was so
saddened as I sat at a nice, shiny new Symphony in a beautifully
equipped edit suite...wishing I was back in my basement with Color.

But it's cool we can use dissolves now.
