Re: [Avid-L2] Re: [OT] Guess who's popular with the kids? AND CRACKS

AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT:

Using the logic of "Don't prosecute someone for stealing something
that they wouldn't buy anyway" then it would be OK if I stole a
Ferrari or a Lamborghini or a Bentley because I would never BUY any of
those cars? That's some pretty poor logic. Put me in jail for stealing
a $20,000 Toyota Camry, because I would maybe buy THAT, but steal a
car worth a quarter of a million dollars, and you should let me go
because I'd never actually pay for a car that expensive?

And once you own the crack, what is the incentive to become a real
customer again?

I know we've discussed the prevalence of cracked FCP suites to the
number of users out there, but I don't think that Apple is counting
cracked software in their user base. And if they did, then what's the
benefit to them other than an empty bragging point. I DO understand
the point that it may help to TRY software before you buy it, but in
that case, it's much easier to use the Avid 14 day trial instead of
spending the effort to crack it. And if you want to use it while you
LEARN it, then buy an academic version. I don't buy the argument that
cracks make people buy software. I do believe to some extent that this
works with music downloads. I have downloaded some free music, but
then I either realize that I hate it, in which case I delete it (and
in my mind, I shouldn't or wouldn't have paid for it in the first
place since I don't like it), or I end up buying it PLUS other stuff
by the same artist. I think the psychology - and price points - for
downloading free music distinguish themselves from "free" software.
