you didn't just bring up iMovie as an NLE...
that was a good one..
the more tools the better. i don't want to be a jack of al trades, but
i would like to not be limited in my capabilities. RR and cineX would
definitely limit me as a finishing editor in that respect. Smoke on a
mac means i have that more capabilities than FCP alone.
It also means that, like the college kids who learned FCP for no $$
investment, i can now learn a new interface/system to expand my
possible income.. (i have 15yrs as an editor and VFX artist, so yes, i
know there's a huge difference in a college kid and a vested veteran)
I agree with OP, that RED should get out of this Beta cycle, get the
cameras done first. let the NLE to the folks who've been doing it. who
have a leg up on them already. think of it, another NLE to compete
with Avid MC, or FCP now.. hey, isn't premiere hiding around here
somewhere too? Does the industry really need another? Would it be as
Game changing as the RED One was? me thinks not.
