ours who already have several FCP systems, Media Composers as well as two
Avid DS Nitris. Why? Because we already have a SAN with all the FCP media
on it. With Smoke on Mac, one merely does a soft link to the files. Plus the
XML from FCP into Smoke is brilliant bringing in much of the "offline"
including DVE info. (Rivals MC to DS). So for us, it will be nice to have
options. For Avid offlines, conform on DS. For FCP, conform and finish in
Smoke.
I think this is brilliant and puts tremendous pressure on Avid. Perhaps
eventually, they'll even make batch available on the Mac versions. What
will happen is they will end up selling more of the full Linux based Smoke
systems as a result.
Cheers,
Timothy
