Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid + Drifting Audio

Hey John

I didn't mean you when I talked about not reading the entire thread.

Offset:
By offset you mean drifting TC from FW-capture? That had nothing to do with
this guys problem, I just wrote a little about my other experience with FW.

Drift:
By drift I suppose you mean drifting audio?

I called a TC offset from FW caputre a drift. Is this not correct? If it
is'nt I suppose we have always used the wrong word because we used to call
it a timecode drift.
(I learned about this back when we cut offline on Xpress and then did
online via SDI on a slow Meridien system).

About audio drifting away from the video I know that is a different problem,
but I have not thought about their connection in anyway. I would love to get
some info about it from you.

Sure, Firewire has it's limitations, but a lot of pros use it still. I
suppose i'ts all about cash. An HDV/DV deck and a Mojo isn't free.
Eye-matching a project was back then a better alternative to buying new
expensive equipment. Then HDV came and we had no HD-SDI so we were back to
firewire once again... For a while. (Thank god to file-based workflows). If
you think about it, HDV isn't really a professional format anyhow...

About the audio drift caused by clips with the sama name, isn't it already
known that Avid always used to hate clips with the same name?

To sum it up: I knew that I talked about 3 different phenomenas, but perhaps
I did not know the correct phrases for Offset and drift. If you have any
under the hood knowledge I would appreciate it.

Best,
M
