Here's how I handle it: I treat each step as if I was hired to only do that part of the job.
When I'm laying down the essentials of the story, I ignore audio or color problems. Once the story is done, I ignore it while mixing. Let me finish the audio before sending it back to the story editor. Of course, that's the real strength of NLE. I can go back and tweak the story after everything else is done. But as much as possible, I focus on one process at a time, and ignore everything else.
My psychiatrist says I'm doing very well these days.
