[Avid-L2] Re: I'm sure you all know this . . .

There are two different ways structure paths in OS X, one uses a forward slash as the separator, the other uses a colon... The forward slash is POSIX related, so only relevant in OS X, the colon was from Classic Mac OS so is carried on as a legacy thing in the newer system. I'd say that some aspects of Media Composer's code still retain conventions from the older system, whlie others are built around the new OS X stuff.

Different operating systems (and versions) have different rules, but in general it's safest to avoid anything other than alphanumeric characters and underscore in drive, directory and folder names. Of course for the most part you can actually use a lot more than that, but there are heaps of exceptions and gotchas.
