In all fairness, it wasn't really FCP's problem - the problem
originated in the NTSC DV25 codec, which was a hybrid
intra-field/intra-frame codec. It was much happier encoding/decoding
an interlaced frame derived from a single 24P image, than an
interlaced frame derived from two different 24P images. And it wasn't
the fault of the FireWire capture either, which neither improved nor
degraded the problems with the NTSC DV25 codec.

"Advanced" pulldown eased the codec's job as it never had to deal with
an interlaced frame derived from two different progressive frames.
