Background

Avid-L was established in 1994 at Calvin College by Steven Koster.
It was created to be a forum for Avid users to meet, discuss, and share
information.

Avid-L quickly grew into the premiere on-line users group for
professional film and video editors. It was one of the earliest examples

of an Internet community, allowing hundreds of editors worldwide to
share their experiences and expertise with their peers. There was no
better place for a professional Avid editor to get such wealth of
informed professional advice.

At various times, individual subscribers volunteered services to the
group. Searchable archives were maintained by Germany's Berlin Users
Group as well as the UIUC. A tips & tricks list was posted by Andy
Birkhead of Innovative Edit. Wes Plate, a longtime contributor, not only

shared key techniques on his Web site, he also created a photo gallery
for members' portraits.

In 1997, several subscribers began a tradition of meeting in person at
the NAB trade show in Las Vegas. The first gatherings were organized by Jaime Fowler. In 1999,
Avid Technology itself began sponsoring these gatherings as an exclusive reception and seminar for Avid-L members only. In 2002, this changed to the "Avid Users Group" meeting.

By 1999, Avid-L boasted over 1600 subscribers, exhibiting a true
international scope with over 300 international members. The community
included participants from a wide variety of well-known corporate
organizations in broadcasting, technical, and content creation fields,
as well as and multiple local TV stations, colleges, and universities.

In 2000, Avid-L joined AvidProNet.com, and then, in 2002, was integrated
Into Avid.com.

In 2005 Due to problems with signal to noise ratio and abusive posters, the Avid-L2 was formed. A year later the Avid-L was discontinued by Avid.

At the middle of 2006, the L2 has around 1100 members, with plenty of "lurker only" members who simply use the web version of the list. The L2 is spam-free, by moderation and with Yahoo's tools and will remain that way. The integrated archives with both old L and L2 posts came on line recently as well at the University of Illinois. That can be found at http://archives.itg.uiuc.edu/avid/.

Cross-posting to the FCP-L is welcome, tho reply's will not flow back to either list necessarily- check your own email reply preferences. The Final Cut list is found at: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/FinalCutPro-L

Welcome, and Enjoy!

Extras!
With a Yahoo account tied to your subscription to the Avid-L2, you can use the web features of the Group.

Calendar Various Avid events are in the Calender. If you have an event you'd like posted, pull down and fill out the Calendar event request and send it to any Moderator

Database - The database area contains Avid Feature requests, Help Wanted, Freelance Listings and For Sale sections. Feel free to add your listings to any of these areas. Job Postings will remain up for 1 month. Please date all postings to the database areas, being pertinent is a good way to be.

Files- The files section contains various sundry files, including the latest Avid release notes. Check back often for changes.

Photos - Pictures of your Avid setup are welcome, or pictures relating to a post you need a photo to explain. Photos will be posted after moderator approval. Who knows, your picture might grace the front page for a while.

Links- Various helpful links, including direct links to Avid CPR releases can be found here, also the link to the archives.

Patch - There are no Patch Installers.

Mac OS Update:  Mac OS v10.13.2 ( High Sierra ) has been qualified in this release.  :)

Upgrading to Mac OS v10.11.x:  (Mac) If you upgrade to Mac OS 10.11.x, you must uninstall Media Composer.  Reinstall Media Composer after you perform the OS upgrade. vIf you use Avid Artist DNxIO, you must also uninstall the Desktop Video software and reinstall it after the OS upgrade.

What's New in v8.10:  Media Composer v8.10 includes a number of new features, including:

  • Support for Avid Artist | DNxIV: This release supports the new Avid Artist I/O box, the Artist | DNxIV.
  • Export OP1a MXF file as Panasonic AVC Long-GOP (H.264): This release of the editing application allows you to export OP1a MXF files as Panasonic AVC Long-GOP (H.264).
  • Enhancements to Audio Mixer Tool: Using the Tab key to scroll in the Audio Mixer tool will continue to scroll through tracks that are not initially visible in the window. Additionally, new Gang context menus have been added to the Track and Group panes to help manage the tracks you are ganging or un-ganging.
  • Timewarp Effect Updates: Timewarp effects played backwards (reverse motion) are now in real time. Also with this release, the Effects Palette now includes a Timewarp Freeze Frame effect template.
  • Syncing Based on Waveform Analysis: The use of waveform analysis to create synchronized clips has been added to the Auto Sync function.
  • 8K Presets: A number of 8K project presets have been added to the Select Project Window, saving users from having to make and save custom projects to work with their 8K media.
  • Logging in to MediaCentral from the Select Project Window: Users can now log into MediaCentral through the Select Project window.
  • Refreshing Locked Bins: Two new bin lock icon colors have been introduced to indicate the status of a locked bin. Users can now see when changes have been made to a locked bin and when the bin has been released for read/write functions.

Fixed in v8.10: The following have been fixed in Media Composer v8.10:

  • Bug Number: MCCET-2208. When working with a dual monitor setup, the Timeline window was opening up in the left monitor when in previous releases it opened in the right monitor.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2207. In some instances, the target resolution was not sticking in the Dynamic Relink Setting when working with AVC Long GOP media.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2184. The Start Remote Sync Sequence button was not working in a Media Composer Cloud setup.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2189. When using the Pan and Zoom effect with Display set to Source, you might have seen flashes during playback.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2198. You might have Warning when enabling COM1 in Remote Play and Capture settings. You might have received an "Avid Serial Driver is not installed" error after enabling COM1 in the Remote Play and Capture Settings.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2019. You might have received Exception errors after updating a User Profile with a modified Audio Setting.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2201. 'You might have received a "Some media failed to import" error when trying to import AAF media.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2148. The aspect ratio might have been incorrect for imported or linked XDCAM MXF media.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2197. In some instances, XDCAM Media displayed vertically stretched.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2071. Timecode was not correct for MXF DNxHD media created in Resolve.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2142. You might have received a "Waveform Analysis failed" error
  • when performing a waveform analysis on group clips.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2166. Previously, you could not map the "Set Color" button in Script Window to the keyboard.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2057. In some instances, the SubCap shadow effect did not display properly.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1987. In some instances, the Record monitor would go black or you would get a "Consistency Check" error after applying a 3D Warp effect.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1145. You might have received an "SFPlayer Consumer Timeout" error when playing back AMA linked AVCHD clips.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2064. (Interplay) When performing a Send to Playback, the temporary MXF or TMF file might not have written to the correct workspace. You can enable the "Use Media Creation Mixdown/Transcode Volume for Temp file creation" in the Transfer Settings to write the temporary file to the same drive selected in the Mixdown & Transcode tab in the Media Creation Settings
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2105. The editing application incorrectly created multiple dual trim rollers on the same track.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2022. The size and color might not have been correct when printing the contents of the Markers window as a PDF. A new Print Scale dialog opens when you choose to Print Markers. You can adjust the scale to print the contents of the window.
  • Bug Number: EPIC-1856. When your locale was set to German, Spanish, or Italian, a number of Media Composer dialog boxes displayed cut off text. Avid has made improvements when displaying these languages so the text is displayed properly. Also, a number of dialogs now include tool tips in the appropriate language. Avid will continue to make improvements with subsequent releases.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2192. You could not preview Closed Captioning data that spanned midnight.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-1083. In some instances, linked ProRes 422 files stuttered during playback.
  • Bug Number: MCCET-2153. Linking specific QuickTime ProRes files resulted in "Exception: Failed to get the sample size from the AMA Plug-in" errors.

Limitations:  The following limitations have been identified in v8.10:

  • Bug Number: MCDEV-8037. If you start a Long GOP capture on an AirSpeed system with a data track and without specifying a duration (a "crash record"), send to playback from Assist or Media Composer of a sequence using this in-progress clip might fail with the status of Canceled when TMF export should begin.
  • Workaround: Specify a duration for the capture, turn off ancillary data for the capture, or use the STP Encode service.
  • Bug Number: COGS-2560. While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See "Editing a Script" in the Help.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-5650. When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an "SFPlayConsumer Timeout" error if audio waveforms are enabled.
  • Workaround: Turn off audio waveforms.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-5385. Multicam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported with this release.
  • Bug Number: MCDEV-5384. Currently, when working with LongG media, you might see dropped frames when editing 4 streams. This might occur when playing from a single stream to multiple streams (and from multiple streams back to a single stream). The dropped frames usually display around the edit point (transition to a different stream).

I have an iPhone SE. It's iPhone 6 guts packed in an iPhone 5 case. If
you don't need the screen size of the 6+ it seems like a much more

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

The 6-plus has a known design flaw, where it's physically weak right in the middle near where volume buttons are and the sim card goes in. Because of Apple's replacement/repair policies, they won't let me switch to even the 6s Plus without paying full price- they'll only sell me an out-of-warranty replacement at a discount if it's the exact same model. Consequently, the 6 plus (NOT 6s plus) keeps failing because I have a habit of sticking the phone in my pocket (crazy, right?) or setting it down somewhere and someone setting something on it, or whatever. Each time the failure is slightly different, but it can all be traced back to this weak spot in the case.

I'm only really interested in the google phone because of project Fi, which is basically google being your cell company - probably contracting with almost every cell phone company in the world, and you're not tied to any one of them - and the phone switches to wifi whenever that's available. Data, anywhere in the world, same price per gig. Only works on the google phone and one other phone. The key is that it's not THAT much cheaper than AT&T, unless you travel. I don't travel that much, but would like to travel more, and not pay ATT an extra $10 a day just to have maps and email when I leave the US.

I'm quite accustomed to the apple integration, especially chat, calendar, and iPod type stuff - and the things that go to iCloud like my address book. I use IMAP for email and that's from our ISP and should work cross-platform, so that part doesn't worry me.
