[Avid-L2] Re: avid editors' opinion of adobe premiere?

 

I'm pretty sure that the metadata is saved with the clip, rather than in the project - so if you are working off shared storage and they are updating scene info on the clips you already have then you'll be seeing the updates 'live'. 


If they are working on duplicate media then you won't get the metadata updates at all (as it isn't stored in your files).

Import options are 'whole project' or 'selected sequences' - there isn't too much folder level sharing (although you can export a folder as a PPro project and then 'import whole project'.

Haven't dealt with this though... others will have more information. Probably the feature film folks who've used PPro would know more about metadata management.

Sure, that seems straightforward.  But what if you have someone logging info for a folder of media in the project window, is there an easy way to get that across?

I have others doing selects on a laptop - then airdrop their project to me. I can import just the selects sequence and relink. Works pretty well.

To show my appreciation for reading this OT post, and considering to pass along a recommendation or two, here's a great Avid tip for those that don't already know this (it's a classic, but a great one).
Command Palette > Other Tab > Map the "Add Opt/Alt" modifier onto the Copy to Clipboard button on your keyboard. Now you mark I/O in the Timeline, set your tracks, and then hit the Copy to Clipboard key, and your selection will automatically be loaded in the Source Window (IMHO the way it should work by default). This is great for things like grabbing nearby ambience to fill in your Filler gaps in dialog, or moving a chunk of the sequence to a distant earlier or later position (plus having control over patching). For the latter, I also recommend Opt/Alt + Lift.

Curious we were able to ama link and transcode AVC-Intra a week ago on our newly updated 8.5.1 mac systems.  Perhaps they downloaded this plug in last week or the previous version we had for P2 worked for us.
