[Avid-L2] Re: how to check a AAF caption file on a data track?

You'll need an HD-SDI monitor that has captioning built-in, there's not a lot of these. I'm not sure about third-party Avid hardware compatibilty on captions, Mojo and Nitris DX definitely work.

Well this did get the clips in the window. Never knew you could drag into that. But then it failed to load the clips.

[Avid-L2] Re: Title tool Q

If you open a title individually the font substitution kicks in automatically usually to arial without a prompt On the other hand if you try to recreate several titles from an in to out if there is a missing font Avid will prompt you before making a font substitution. I've been burn opening a single title before so I always recreate titles in bulk on an unknown sequence Once you opened the title individually it's already changed even if you cancel the substitution dialogue. Usually for me that changes the title in the timeline so I have to go back to a virgin sequence and delete the fontsub.text file or some name like that near mcstate as has been mentioned.

[Avid-L2] AMA Red Raw files differ in timecode from real time Pix Recorder DNX45?

Oh the fun of Red workflows.  Besides our issues of Transcoding the decomposed clips the AE has now discovered that the down converts from the field were made in real time onto Pix recorders.  Unfortunately when we compare the pix recorder files to the avid ama linked Red R3D files there are approx 4 or 5 frames difference in time code for the same frame.  WTF.  The production crew said it would be great and no problem to do the down converts in real time using the Pix, I assume Pix-240 recorder, to do everything during the shoot.  This way the DIT wouldn't have to do the downconvert transcodes later.  Well please correct me if I'm wrong but the down converts should have the same Fing time code the Red raw files have.  So in order to seemingly save sooooo much time in production, even though it's one person (the DIT) that does the transcodes not the whole crew, they have F'd post once again with their lack of competence.

I don't see why what they did doesn't work frame accurately but I don't know the setup.  I would assume they feed the Pix HDSDI which would carry the timecode that should match the raw files.  But I have no idea if there is a processing delay on the HDSDI spicket and if the embedded time code is how the Pix was slaved to the camera.  This is just cluster flop after cluster flop.  It really shouldn't be this hard.

Re: [Avid-L2] OT: H.264 Content delivery Networks

I've had an incredibly hard time finding someone to send multicast H.264
RTP/RTSP (Quicktime flavor). Akamai was the first and pretty much only CDN
to offer it as a product, but now they wont provision new streams. I had to
find someone with unused streams. If you can get away with it, you can
stream H.264 via Flash which is still offered by Akamai, Limelight,
Edgecast, Voxel/Internap, and others.

Re: [Avid-L2] AVCHD and AMA

Hi Lou, try this:

In Finder, right-click the AVCHD volume and Show Package Contents
Navigate to the folder you were previously able to AMA link
Go up one level so you can see this folder as an item in the Finder window
Go back to MC
Link to AMA Volume
Drag the folder from the Finder window into the Link to dialog box
It should navigate the Link to dialog to the folder you want and let you
link.

[Avid-L2] Title tool Q

We just upgraded one of our Symphonies to 6.5.2.1 from 5.5.3. Opened a project we were working on and titles from title tool are unrendered as before and have the correct font. When you open edit title, however, the title tool editor is displaying the font as Arial, which it is not. The titles are unrendered but have the correct font displayed on the video monitor. Anyone?

[Avid-L2] Re: AMA link to Red Epic ISO 1600?

If it is for depth of field isn't sending less light to the sensor going to increase noise just like using the gain switch on a video camera? This is a standup comic on a fully lit stage moving around some. Is that really hard to keep in focus on a Red Epic? I'm not trying to be critical of production I want to better understand the shoot constraints of the Red Epic.
