Re: [Avid-L2] Re: SSD DRIVE

I also moved my internet browser cache / temp file, Windows Desktop, and
any temp folders from applications to another drive. Most of these do not
benefit from SSD speed and increases the life span and maintain good
performance longer.

RE: [Avid-L2] Which Pen & Tablet for MC6 on Win7?

John,

We had the same annoying problems with animations forcing themselves on Wacom users. I found this guide quite helpful and he also makes a free tool called Fix My Pen which just sorts everything in one click for a fast fix.

http://viziblr.com/news/2011/8/14/the-ultimate-guide-to-making-your-wacom-tablet-work-on-windo.html

Sorry I can't be of any help to the OP but maybe this will help when they get a tablet sorted.

Re: [Avid-L2] Which Pen & Tablet for MC6 on Win7?

I use a Wacom Intuos4 model PTK840. No issues except that Win7 sometimes
loses the tablet, but this may be due to the fact that I have it on a Cat6
USB extender; I power cycle the extender to solve that. And sometimes the
mapping will become mirrored (upper left becomes lower right) but this is
easily resolved by stopping and restarting the Tablet Wacom service.

I and other users have experienced some issues with Windows' "Tablet PC
Input Service," which gives visual feedback which looks like pond ripples
upon tapping the stylus to the tablet. This is designed for tablet PCs and
not Wacom tablets. Disabling this service solves this problem for the most
part, though the effect does come up for me when using Expression Encoder,
a Microsoft product; it goes away when I close Expression Encoder.

[Avid-L2] Re: Canon 5D ama transcode has glitches is Perian a glitch maker?

Well a different system responds the same way as the other media composer. So why when ama linking to Canon 5D files would my SNDX show proper levels with the source settings set to do not modify levels and a mcsoft 5.5.3 need to be set to compress to video levels to show proper levels on the avid internal scopes? We are going to try a transcode with it set to compress to video levels and see how it looks when brought into my symphony. This is strange.

We are going to try a different mc system to see how it behaves. IIRC Perian and something like the Sony Content Browser or some such app were known to introduce level issues between ama and regular import or something like that. Perhaps someone can remind me of the specifics. I'll post what we find on the other system.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: SSD DRIVE

Well the concept is the same. TRIM is the function (probably in BIOS on a
PC) that controls the garbage collection on SSDs.

[Avid-L2] Which Pen & Tablet for MC6 on Win7?

I recently upgraded a client's HP XW8600-based Media Composer Nitris DX to
MC 6.5.2 and Win 7. One casualty was the user's Wacom tablet.

Here is a description of the problem:

Does anyone have recommendation of a USB pen & tablet system that is known
to work with Media Composer 6.x on Windows 7?

Thanks!

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: SSD DRIVE

I installed an 840 Pro in my Mac Mini. It's great.

I also ran the TRIM Enabler on the drive. I believe this is what's being
talked about.

Re: [Avid-L2] OT: Recording audio when shooting with a DSLR

It's not the H4N. It's the 5D and other HDSLRs. It is a known problem that
the internally recorded audio on a 5D is approximately two frames off from
video. So what Steve is saying is don't sync your H4N audio to the AUDIO of
the 5D. Sync the H4N audio to the VIDEO of the 5D.

[Avid-L2] Re: SSD DRIVE

There are somr tweaks needed if you use an SSD as an OS drive to do with preventing unrequited file writes which will otherwise refuce the drives life.
It's possible windows 7 will dpot its an SSD but I suspect that only happens on a frrsh install.
