Re: [Avid-L2] Searching for Quality DVDs

Don't do the encoding with a DVD program. Do the encoding in Compressor or Squeeze.

Are you sure that you're seeing interlacing? There's something that can look SIMILAR to that, but actually WORSE, and that's when the resize of the file is done wrong.

Why use progressive if you shot interlaced? Don't scale in Encore. Check your files compressed files BEFORE you send them to the DVD program. Do they look good before you put them on the DVD? There are a bunch of places your file could be getting screwed up. going from 486 to 480 the wrong way will make weird "lines" in motion. That's not interlacing. That's a resizing issue.

[Avid-L2] Searching for Quality DVDs

Maybe its the proverbial "pot at the end of the rainbow" but I am continuously searching to make a quality DVD from a sequence. I am never happy with the outcome. [Avid-L2] Re: Encore

I use CS 5 and particularly Encore on PC every day. I have found that for with AE HD projects for SD broadcast, I conform all the HD elements in HD and then open the sequence in a Premiere SD timeline and add titles etc. i have found that titles suffer badly with all in one downconverts. As for Encore, all video must be prepped beforehand in Premiere. If not , Encore just crashes if the video is used directly in Encore. Encore is the weak link (but is really good for DVD plumbing and menu adapting) unlike Adobe Media Encoder that is one of the best, cheap - free, easy access transcoders around. Particularly as it does not really on QT to transcode.

Hope this helps

RE: [Avid-L2] XDCAM HD 422 50M

Hi there,

Yes we have done it quite a lot before without too much trouble. But this time tried on several machines and several different software versions and all failed.. Only FCp worked. Also tried importing as well as AMA and no joy

We've been using XDCAM 50 and Sony Pro Discs a lot, with 4.x and 5.x.
They can be a little finicky with AMA but overall have been very
reliable. You might want to reinstall the Sony XDCAM software and the
firmware on your PDW-U1 drive. I'm using XDCAM driver V. 2.3.0 and U1
firmware V. 2.450 on a Symphony 5 right now and it's working well.

[Avid-L2] XDCAM HD 422 50M

HI there

We are importing the above files into avid and we get this avid error.

you-cannot-import-this-file-into-a-bin

We can't AMA or import. It also doesn't work in premiere but does in FCP.
They are proper XDCAmHD files from an XDCAM disc shot on a sony camera. They
work in the sony clip browser.

Also it doesn't work in v3.5/4 or 5!

Internet search says it's an incompatible format, but it isn't . The only
way we could do it was to import into FCP and export as something different.

Any Ideas?

Re: [Avid-L2] OT: Way OT The reason wireless mics were invented.

Been there, done that. Doing a segment on wheel chair access in a
big Tokyo train station, running with a camera on my shoulder to
get ahead of our guest in her motorized wheel chair. Sound guy
with the shotgun mic running behind steps on the mic cable. Boom.
No sense of falling or anything. But reality has had an
instantaneous shift, I'm suddenly in some strange confusing world
that makes no sense... until I realize I'm flat on my back
looking up at the station ceiling which is a maze of ugly
ducting, water pipes, etc., etc. One of the weirdest experiences

So is there some under the hood reason why imported matte keys in 5.0.3.x don't have the option to invert the key like they do in version 4.0.5? Any thoughts?
