I had read online that High Sierra breaks support for external monitors using DisplayLink? At least external monitors using USB...

That's why i haven't updated/upgraded.

The only issue I remember is getting the correct BMD drivers for the 4K Exteme Card and desktop video app. 8.9.3 did not use the latest. I had to down rev.
The 2018 install needed a specific driver.
The Avid installer tells you what it wants. I think it's 10.10.9 (maybe) not sure
Buts it's very stable with Resolve 15, Avid & Adobe 2018.
I need more ram 48 ain't enough

In particular, John C: did you have trouble going from Sierra to High Sierra? I can't get the computer to accept the firmware update. Google may have found a possible work-around, but I wonder what your experience was?

Working well here.

I spend a lot of time in Adobe CC,

upgrade has made a big difference.

I am on MC 8.5.3 but upgrading soon,

due to recent Avid 'licensing' mandate.
