Re: [Avid-L2] DPX debayer issue in Media Composer 8.6 and up

They do allow 16 bit DPX as an export option.  I have only used 10 bit based on my source material but I wonder if there is an issue with a 16 bit export from 10 bit material.

Hello all,
Wanted to flag an issue we've encountered recently, just so the people on this list can spread the word and don't also fall foul!
Our issue was using MC version 8.6.4 on both PC and Mac where by when 'linked' to any DPX media higher than 10bit (12 and 16 we have tried), there is a visible red & blue shift in picture as if whatever is debayering the picture is not assembling all the channels (RGB) correctly. Consequently you get a one pixel blue highlight on right of things in image, and a one pixel red on the left. We have since tried with the same result in 8.8 so the bug is still present currently.
This is from DPX media generated in resolve, nucoda and baselight, so seems to be everything we encounter on a day to day basis!

According to our Avid UK contact this is a known issue on their part, but I don't believe it is published anywhere as a known issue so look out for it!

Thanks,
Adam

AFAIK, and all of my experience, currently, and for as long as I know, Media Composer only supports 10bit DPX.  It's not a bug, so much as it just doesn't support 16bit DPX.  I would be nice if they added support, but don't hold your breath.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. I failed to click on the text, "What's New," which then reveals that the update is for 8.8. I should have remembered that UI quirk from the old App Man. I'll let it do the install.
