Re: [Avid-L2] New App Man

The new version should be 8.8

I see there's a new version of Avid App Manager with a changed interface. Nice. Weirdly, it indicated that there's an update available for me, Media Composer 8.7.2.44855. I downloaded it but didn't install it. It's weird because this is the version I already have installed. Any harm in letting AppMan install it again? Should I bother to uninstall first? Should I ignore AppMan? (I'm on Mac Sierra.)

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.

Latest MC version is 8.8. ScriptSync and PhraseFind have been revived in this version.

It shows you what you have installed.  Then says that an update is available.  It will install v8.8.0.

Yes, I've been though this.  No, I'm not just making stuff up.

My reseller just re-imaged the C drive, so everything is nice and clean and snappy. If I want to keep a backup of the drive, what should I use? Are "image" and "clone " the same thing? I'd like to keep a bootable version on a USB drive. What say you?

Re: [Avid-L2] exports taking very long

Rich,

Followed your 'recipe' (actually mine was simpler) and the export
from the timeline to DNxHD 145 was 250% real time. Even my trick
of exporting a QT reference (from DNxHD material of course) and
using MPEG Streamclip to compress/make a self contained QT was
about 170% real time. So I guess the trash can Macs will speed us
up -- good to know! Thanks for the benchmarks.

Yes you can. For multigrouping, there is an excellent tutorial here: http://willblanksblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-to-multigroup_15.html

It's also possible for standard group clips, just include the audio-only clips when you do the grouping. However, if the various audios occupy the same channels you'll need to remap the channels before grouping, or adjust the channels in the timeline. Bouke has software that can do the channel remapping, depending on your source material.
