[Avid-L2] Re: Pan and Zoom w 6.5

This is only happening with .psd files. We can't even link to them if we use a new P&Z effect. If we change the .psd to a .tif, even at the same size, they link fine.

[Avid-L2] Pan and Zoom w 6.5

Symphony 6.5.2.1 Windows 7 Z800

We had a project we were working on v5.5.3. Had a bunch of Pan and Zoom effects. We just upgraded to 6.5.2.1 and all Pan and Zoom are showing black screens. I read that this could be an issue in Windows 7 if stills are on a network shared drive but that is not the case here. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Title tool Q

Yes, it clears all the substitutions when you clear that file.

FCP 7 is even worse- it substitutes fonts without telling you.

Both suck- it would be nice if info about the original font remained with the title, even when you don't have the font installed.

Of course, that's the least if the shortcomings when it comes to title tool.

I did have a problem also linking to my AVCHD files. I then installed a plugin for them, and it worked really well. I'm on AVID 6.5.2 running on iMac 10.8.3.

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Title tool Q

Sorry, can someone explain what that font file does? What is it's purpose and what does deleting it cause to happen? Is it a way of clearing all the font replacements that may have happened? Or just stopping Avid from replacing fonts? I've not heard of it before...

Cheers,

Andi

Like I said if you open a title individually to recreate it in your case edit it if the current system doesn't have it a font substitution will happen to aireal will happen with a dialogue box allowing you to substitue with a different font. Unfortunately at this point even cancelling you are already left with the arial substitution.

the weird thing was that the sequence was showing the correct font on an unrendered title tool. It was only when I went to edit that it changed to Arial.

[Avid-L2] Re: thunderbolt fibrejet imac

Hi John,

Welcome back. I can partially answer your question, with it *should* work. I freelance at a shop with 5 Mac clients on a CommandSoft FibreJet-controlled SAN. We are running MacPros via fibre channel, but one was recently replace with a new iMac. They are running with a Thunderbolt-to-FC adapter. I think it's the ATTO one.

I'm the only one running MC there, as we have typically been using FCP 7 with a little bit of Smoke, FCP X and Premiere Pro. Since the FiberJet software sets the SAN up as a volume-based configuration with defined read-write permissions, there has been no problem running MC in this fashion. Only one user at a time can "write into" any given Avid MediaFiles folder. Naturally you don't get collaborative Avid-style project sharing (Unity, ISIS, etc.), but individual stations can work with the SAN volume for the Avid MediaFiles folders and/or link to media on the SAN via AMA. Projects are stored locally.

I have not tested this with the iMac, though, so while it *should* work, I have no direct experience, yet.

- Oliver

If you use the watershield discs, you can rub them with your finger
immediately when they come out of the printer with no smearing or smudging.

Background

Avid-L was established in 1994 at Calvin College by Steven Koster.
It was created to be a forum for Avid users to meet, discuss, and share
information.

Avid-L quickly grew into the premiere on-line users group for
professional film and video editors. It was one of the earliest examples

of an Internet community, allowing hundreds of editors worldwide to
share their experiences and expertise with their peers. There was no
better place for a professional Avid editor to get such wealth of
informed professional advice.

At various times, individual subscribers volunteered services to the
group. Searchable archives were maintained by Germany's Berlin Users
Group as well as the UIUC. A tips & tricks list was posted by Andy
Birkhead of Innovative Edit. Wes Plate, a longtime contributor, not only

shared key techniques on his Web site, he also created a photo gallery
for members' portraits.

In 1997, several subscribers began a tradition of meeting in person at
the NAB trade show in Las Vegas. The first gatherings were organized by Jaime Fowler. In 1999,
Avid Technology itself began sponsoring these gatherings as an exclusive reception and seminar for Avid-L members only. In 2002, this changed to the "Avid Users Group" meeting.

By 1999, Avid-L boasted over 1600 subscribers, exhibiting a true
international scope with over 300 international members. The community
included participants from a wide variety of well-known corporate
organizations in broadcasting, technical, and content creation fields,
as well as and multiple local TV stations, colleges, and universities.

In 2000, Avid-L joined AvidProNet.com, and then, in 2002, was integrated
Into Avid.com.

In 2005 Due to problems with signal to noise ratio and abusive posters, the Avid-L2 was formed. A year later the Avid-L was discontinued by Avid.

At the middle of 2006, the L2 has around 1100 members, with plenty of "lurker only" members who simply use the web version of the list. The L2 is spam-free, by moderation and with Yahoo's tools and will remain that way. The integrated archives with both old L and L2 posts came on line recently as well at the University of Illinois. That can be found at http://archives.itg.uiuc.edu/avid/.

Cross-posting to the FCP-L is welcome, tho reply's will not flow back to either list necessarily- check your own email reply preferences. The Final Cut list is found at: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/FinalCutPro-L

Welcome, and Enjoy!
