[Avid-L2] DSLR Footage Acquisition
I am using a D7000 shooting at 720p 30fps and I am bringing in the
footage as a .mov and it takes .... forever.
Is there a better way?
Thanks,
Dave
Re: [Avid-L2] Color Correction Scope problem Symphony 6.0
What scope do you have? I have a Tek 5200 (the cheapest one) and it can display on as big a monitor as you could possibly want via a DVI-D on the back.
I have used Ultrascopes at freelance places and I find them very limiting. They're great for the $2 or $3K that it costs to build one, but they don't allow a lot of customization. A Tek scope has almost a dozen different displays all reachable with a single button push.
Disclaimer: I am often employed by Tek to talk about color correction and the importance of scopes.

[Avid-L2] Re: Color Correction Scope problem Symphony 6.0
Keep the Tek for the specialty displays like the diamond display and add an UltraScope for parade etc... I think you'll find the Ultrascope underwhelming but functional. You might want to look into upgrading your Tek scope to a wfm 5200 which has the ability to feed an external monitor. The single dsp only allows two waveforms at a time. I assume you are use to that with the 5000. The inability on the Ultrascope to display two vector scopes and no I & Q really blows imho.

"land" on it, then tend to keep an eye on my external scope (a WFM5000)
while I'm actually making the adjustment.
I still want to get rid of my Tektronix and put a Ultrascope system in. I
want a bigger display with more stuff.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Recycling old unitys
led me to believe the specific storage controller(s) in the that model at
least only supported up to 750GB drives, As it has 16x250GB currently for a
~3TB storage pool it hardly seemed worth putting expensive 750GB drives in
it for a ~9TB unit.
I believe I installed OpenFiler or FreeNAS on it - I can't remember which -
but whatever I used it had no trouble recognising the existing hardware and
disks.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: How to deliver XML
If they're taking it into Premiere then try an AAF from Avid directly into
Premiere. Maybe you'll have better luck than I have.
If that doesn't work, Autoduck to FCP, check that the edit came across and
the files are relinked, then export an XML from there and they can import
that into Premiere, or you can import it if you have Premiere and check
your edit. Send them a project file and the XML. Takes about 5 minutes if
the files link up properly in FCP.

Re: [Avid-L2] How to deliver XML
free now and works great. I sometimes use it to take Avid to FCP, then
FCPXML to Premiere.
You're supposed to be able to export an AAF from Avid and import it into
Premiere but I can never get it to work. Might give it a try though.

Hi Jeff,
This is a preview from the SIGGRAPH conference which is in LA in two weeks, http://s2012.siggraph.org/.
If you're in LA you might really enjoy some time on the show floor as well as some of the other events, http://s2012.siggraph.org/attendees/computer-animation-festival/electronic-theater.
Best Wishes,

The funny thing is that while watching the demonstration, I easily saw even
better locations for the edit to achieve the same thing. I'm thinking "fail" on
multiple levels, especially legally.
The tech is pretty cool though.
