[Avid-L2] Re: Sapphire Q (bug on v5?)

Hi Ken

We're seeing the same 'feature' (same rental co, same setup).

It's when you put a dissolve on a sapphire plug in (eg V1 BG, V2 Sapphire math-ops - with head/tail fades)

Usually it's the slate popping up in the mix.

Goes away with render.

Error is baked in to video mixdown if effects not rendered.

Also seeing some weird behaviour when deleting clips in a bin. First selection of clips and delete works OK, 2nd selection and delete then deletes the bin! Not sure if this is repeatable though.

A restart of Symphony fixes it so it seems like a RAM related issue but it is very strange. This is happening on 2 different Symphonies.

Discussion on how to get that particular piece of software to function belongs elsewhere, Until it's an Avid Product, there are other places to get that thing working.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: The FCPX thread

Nope. Apple doesn't do that. When they kill something it's just dead to
them.

However the fact that there's no FCP7 information on Apple's site, nor can
it be bought from the Apple Store should be evidence enough. Surely if we
were all mistaken on this they'd be able to at least put that right :)

I completely agree with him. If Apple wants to add all the keywording, that's great. There's no reason it can exist along side bins inside the Event. Problem solved.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: The FCPX thread

Humorous, but it's a shameless plug . . . you've been warned ;)

With the reaction to FCPX being what it is,
I couldn't resist the opportunity to do a little advertising:

[Avid-L2] Apple=Mozilla?

Is anyone else struck by the similarities between Mozilla's position and
what we assume Apple's approach to the "Pro" editing community is (or at
least the larger enterprise broadcasters)

the difference is that the Mozilla guys have the nuts to duke it out in
the public arena while the Apple guys appear to be content with feeding
lines to Dave Pogue, Larry Jordan and Philip Hodgetts.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Why fcpx is bad for avid

The "not pro" argument in the past were worked through by Apple until, bit
by bit and with the help of a lot of third parties, it became definitely
professional.

The problem now is they have burned a lot of trust. While it's possible FCP
X will regain a lot of the pro features that we might need, it's hard to
imagine bigger businesses (networks, post houses, etc) trusting them again
so quickly after this experience. And the environment is different to the
one FCP came up in - Avid is cheaper and more open than it was, Premiere has
a lot more pro features than it used to. FCP forced it's way in with a
drastically low cost, but that's not going to help them so much the second
time round.

I know a broadcaster that was about to put a fairly large FCP install in -
they are not now, and I doubt they'll even consider Apple's products for
such a task again for a long time.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid Mentors

I think the WTF is just a result of some basic difference in working style
and terminology - you only have to look at a handful of YouTube FCP
tutorials to see why some people would be stuck. I certainly find that
having learned most of my craft on Avid I have no problem going to FCP and
back again, but people who've started on FCP have learned some other ways.

I might see if I can come up with some way of making connections...
