Now that you mention that I have in approximately 3 years ago prior to the support contract gateway to current versions for a year always used a VAR for upgrading to versions when they came out. Even that wasn't very smooth as often times the Avid records were inaccurate for some reason and I was constantly required to dig up old proof of purchase documents to prove my dongles and software licenses were valid. The VAR aided in that part of the equation but it too was unnecessarily cumbersome and quite often required Marianna intervention.
