Wow I'm impressed with what sounds like some big time CGI effects. I would have never thought I could build something like that myself but you give me hope if I need to do that.
To answer your question the thing I've seen many shows use it what New Blue Effects calls "Active Camera". Basically it's shaking the image to simulate a hand held camera feel. It helps to make the shots feel more organic. You can do it with motion tracking in Avid. One show I worked on shot actual footage of a white dot on a black background with a hand held camera. Then they tracked the footage and applied that tracking effect to the CG shots to give it a little wobble. They did several takes with more or less drastic camera movement. Worked well but you have to watch the edges to make sure the edge of the image isn't seen. A bit of a blowup is required to fix the edges. The New Blue Active Camera actually fills in the edges with the last good content, kinda like a Kscope use to offer on some effects that would leave black edges with ripple etc....

Element 3D has been huge in creating the Airliner and I created the texture maps to change out logos and create an Asiana flight with fleet logos and colors. Shots are quick. One in air, one cu landing gear coming out, and one low water (Psunami in AE) flyby with gear down. (approach to SFO is over water). SFX all help sell the shots but are there any other tricks to take the "CGI edge" off the shots and give them a more realistic look? FPS? color treatment, anything?
