I ran into something similar going between 6 and 5.5 with P2 media. The way I remember getting around this was not to change bin to a custom display in 6. Once the TC is gone there seems to be no getting it back. I created a custom bin display that displayed all P2 headings. When I needed to go between the 2, I would make sure I would set the display to this setting.
Avid recommends not changing bin display when using P2 media. I guess this is why.
